Pawns
Some say life’s a game with a clock that won’t stop
And we must win it at any and all cost
We’re told that we’re pawns regardless of our name
And for us our games have already been lost
But we keep moving pieces and take all we can
As we crush and maim all out there in our way
We trample the rules as they’re written for fools
Because we’re told that’s how winners come to play
But as we grow old and become far less bold
And we think of victories shallow and deep
Ask if the games that we’ve won while having our fun
Came at a cost which has proven too steep
